Bishop Trevor Mwamba had been planning to run as presidential candidate for the United National Independence Party (UNIP), Zambia’s post-independence party once headed by Kenneth Kaunda. But when he went to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to file his candidacy for the party in May, his dream was shattered by administrative hurdles which he claims were deliberate – and affected others.

Member of the National Assembly for Mporokoso, Brian Mundubile, secured a last-minute slot to file his candidacy under the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), which was formed in May.
